SALISBURY PREVIEW
Salisbury away game
Rival Sea Gulls on deck
Wednesday for Wolverines
This Wednesday, October 29, the Wesley College Wolverines travel south to challenge Route 13 rival Salisbury University Sea Gulls in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest.
The match will be held at 7:00 PM on the Salisbury campus at the Maggs Physical Activities Center in the lower level main gymnasium located at 1101 Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD.
The Sea Gulls 3-4 conference record (though 18-9 overall) belies somewhat a Salisbury team that can truly dominate the court. The Sea Gulls almost disrupted the CAC's 7-0 standings leader Christopher Newport Captains' – CNU, 27-3 overall -- record of not having been defeated in regular season conference match for what is now 136 straight games. In that near Salisbury victory, the Captains won the first and third sets 26-24 each time, while the Sea Gulls triumphed in second and fourth 25-23 each time, before CNU picked up the fifth 15-7.
According to a link at the Salisbury website, the Wesley game on Wednesday evening should be available via a live broadcast online. See: http://portal.stretchinternet.com/salisbury

Wolverines head this Saturday
for VA's Blue Ridge Mountains
The Wesley Wolverines, 11-12 overall (1-5 conf.), are off on Saturday morning, October 25, to Virginia's beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the town of Buena Vista, which – trivia note to Phillies fans – is a childhood home of ex-manager Charlie Manuel.
Game time is 3:00 PM against the Southern Virginia Knights at “The Barn”, the Knights' Sports Arena. The gym picked up its nickname from once being the equestrian center on campus.
Address for the Southern Virginia University:
1 University Hill Drive, Buena Vista, VA.
The Knights have won 12 of their last 16 volleyball contests with a 15-8 overall and a 4-3 record in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) before upcoming home matches this Friday against the non-conference Lynchburg Hornets and Saturday's CAC contest with the Wolverines.
Southern Virginia has the smallest enrollment in the CAC with 662 undergraduates compared to Wesley's 1,600, which is the conference's second smallest student body. The University's volleyball players are also well traveled, having Knights who come from 11 different states, of which 6 are west of the Mississippi.

CHRIS. NEWPORT PREVIEW
No reg. season conference loss since 2006!
Chris. Newport takes unblemished
8 yr. record to Wesley this Thursday
The Wesley Wolverines may face their toughest opponent so far this season when the Christopher Newport Captains arrive at the Wentworth Gymnasium, 120 North State Street, Dover, DE, on the Wesley College campus for a 6:00 PM match this Thurday, October 16.
Christopher Newport's impressive 21-3 overall record is tops in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC), where the Captains, along with Marymount Saints, are 3-0.
Amazing string of victories...
More than that imposing win-loss tally this season, the Christopher Newport Captains also can boast that they hold a string of 130 consecutive regular season conference victories dating back 8 years to the 2006!
The Captains, however, are new to the CAC, which they joined as full members just last year for the 2013 season. (The Salisbury Sea Gulls almost broke Christopher Newport's record earlier this year but ultimately the Captains prevailed in a close, back-and-forth, hard fought 5 set match.)

NITTANY LIONS
This one counts – more than others!
Nittany Lions at Wentworth;
first CAC game on Wednesday
Suddenly, the games really, really do count.
That's because the conference schedule begins the day after tomorrow, Wednesday!
Here are numbers...
Over the next 4-1/2 weeks, the Wesley Wolverines (10-6) play 9 of 11 games against Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) colleges. None of the CAC schools have battled each other yet. All of but three have winning records so far. The Christopher Newport Captains have lost just a single match this season.
The Wolverines have 5 remaining games at home now; next 4 consecutive home games are all against CAC members.
Of the 6 road games still to play, 4 are in Virginia (against 3 CAC opponents) with the other two CAC contests held in Maryland (Salisbury) and Pennsylvania (York).
Wednesday's game...
First up, this Wednesday, October 1, a conference game against Penn St.-Harrisburg Lions in the Wentworth Gymnasium on the Wesley campus, Dover, DE.
These Nittany Lions have lost 6 in a row and 12 of their last 13 volleyball games. Their sole victory was a 3-1 match against the Rosemont Ravens. They also lost to Misericordia Cougars 3-0. Of course, the Wolverines defeated the Ravens last Saturday 3-0 (though the final set was a nail-biter), while dropping their Misericordia match 3-1 the week before last.
